The Hammer
- ham·mer ( hăm'ər) n.
- A metal ball weighing 8.8 pounds (4 kilograms) and having a long wire or wooden handle by which it is thrown for distance in track-and-field competition. The name hammer throw is derived from older competitions where in fact a hammer was thrown.
